Who Are We?
Hi, I’m Martyn—welcome to SmartWood! We’re here with one goal: to create and install stunning media walls and AV furniture for homeowners across the East Midlands. Based in Newark-on-Trent, we proudly serve Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln, and Derby.
My journey in this industry started at 16, working alongside my father in his Bang & Olufsen television and HiFi stores in Nottingham. As a high-end Danish brand, Bang & Olufsen showed me how technology and design can exist in perfect harmony. I quickly understood why our customers valued not just performance but also aesthetics.
I was lucky enough to witness the introduction of some of the first flat-screen TVs, which in turn lead to a demand for wall mounting. Since we provided an installation service with every purchase, I became deeply involved in crafting beautiful home entertainment setups—an experience that shaped my approach to technology and interiors.
After a period as a store manager for BoConcept in Leeds, a high-end Danish furniture brand, I launched my own business, Virtuoso AV. For the past five years, I’ve been helping clients integrate home technology seamlessly into their living spaces.
I’ve always believed that technology should enhance your lifestyle, not disrupt it. A great system isn’t just about performance—it should fit your space perfectly, both functionally and aesthetically. This is exactly why media walls and custom made cabinetry have become so popular, and why they resonate so strongly with my background.
To reflect my passion for both technology and furniture, I created SmartWood—a dedicated branch of Virtuoso AV. The name itself represents the fusion of smart technology and beautiful craftsmanship.
